My plan to address the health care crisis in this country:
I think it has become obvious:
We need to take steps towards universal health care coverage in this country NOW.
If you agree, sign on to my petition to join me in this fight.
You couldn’t create a more opaque health care system than the one in the U.S. No one pays more for less than we do.
And when we’re facing an urgent affordability crisis, it’s unconscionable to me that my Republican colleagues voted last year to strip health care from millions of Americans. Conveniently, most of those cuts don’t take effect until after this year’s election.
But we have to go further than patching the broken system.
In order to have a sustainable system, we have to have universal health care, so that we don’t focus only on who has coverage, but put our focus on bringing costs down for everyone.
Last week, I introduced a plan to move our country towards a system of universal health care coverage:
Reverse the actions of the current administration by undoing the harmful health care provisions in the Big Ugly bill and making permanent the enhanced ACA tax credits that Republicans let expire.
Implement a low-cost public health insurance option and improve Medicaid and Medicare coverage.
Stand up to the middlemen profiting off this broken system by ensuring health insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers do not put profit over patients and by extending Medicare-negotiated drug prices and out-of-pocket limits for prescription drugs.
And increase transparency across the system by requiring health insurance plans in the employer and ACA markets provide detailed information about benefits, explanations of benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and to make certain cost and ownership information public.
It all comes down to this: We need to move past the partisan fights over who gets covered, towards a system that doesn’t rely on your employer for health care. And we need to make sure every American can access a basic standard of care.
It’s not only the right thing to do – it’s also the only way to start lowering costs for everyone.
The path forward won’t be easy. Huge systemic change like this doesn’t happen overnight. And frankly, it will require bipartisan leadership, deal-making, and consensus-building.
That’s why I’m running for reelection, and why I need my team of grassroots supporters to join me in this fight.
Thank you,
